Eugenie Drakes has been active in the handcraft sector from 1987 and opened a retail store ‘Piece’ in 2000. Her main focus was on traditionally inspired handmade objects for a global audience and worked with rural, peri-urban and urban producers. Drakes has used traditional techniques and modern design to produce unique products for a global audience. In her career she has designed 10 signature pictures for Face of Africa Final Live Broadcast from Lagos, worked with David Tlale for his New York Fashion Week solo debut, collaborated with a number of local Designers and Design Students for various Fashion weeks. Invited as a specialist to an Africa – India Summit in Addis Ababa followed by sessions in Delhi, Drakes has taken her experience and organised a group participation in the Trade and Impact Summit in Morocco. After closing the retail store Drakes now put her energy into mentoring Creative Entrepreneurs on a number of different programmes.
