CRD01 – Brief
Learners were tasked to create designs that are directed and developed through a creative synthesis of contextual adherence. They were provided with two contexts: the first is the utility wear trend, which has a particular style embodied by the protective performance or multipurpose product trends but is also focused on functional problem solving. So, it looks a certain way, but it also functions in a certain way. The function involved here will relate to the conditions and problems of the COVID-19 lockdown. The other context is a subcultural style (there are three options to choose from here). The subcultural style is your vibe: while you must adhere to the context of punk/hip hop/grunge, this is an opportunity for you to express your creativity.
They were tasked to merge and balance these two contexts into original and innovative designs that aesthetically reflect their chosen subculture (vibe) AND the utility wear trend (in terms of both look and function). Both contexts must be visible in your designs and because the utility trend is about functional problem solving, their designs must ALSO solve practical problems – in this case, the practical problems brought about by COVID-19 lockdown.
